Power in Partnership | UT Southwestern

by | May 10, 2024 | Community, Partners, Resources

“After meeting The Magdalen House at a health fair, we knew we wanted to become community partners with them. Our HealthStreet team provided health screenings and education at their resource fair, where we were inspired by the residents to look at how we can incorporate liver screenings in the future to better serve the needs of our community members and be able to expand what we offer through both screenings and education. We were also thrilled to have them speak on a panel at our first annual Community Engagement Symposium around innovative community organizations. Learning and inspiring each other makes for a fruitful partnership and we look forward to our continuing work with The Magdalen House!”

The Magdalen House is excited to highlight UT Southwestern Medical Center for this quarter’s Community Spotlight! UT Southwestern Medical Center’s mission is one of “commitment to excellence, dedication to discovery, and service to the community.” It is that service to the community that has connected them to us.

A prominent and well-respected institution in North Texas, UT Southwestern Medical Center has been a symbol of innovative healthcare and education for more than 75 years. Located in the heart of Dallas, this hospital was named #1 in the state of Texas and is one of the top 20 in the nation. They bridge the gap between education, healthcare, and community to bring awareness and services to underserved populations.

To address the need for awareness and services, UT Southwestern CTSA Program and OCHRE sponsored the “Power in Partnership” Community Engagement Symposium in April. The Magdalen House was honored to be chosen to speak on a panel about “innovation in service delivery models,” with other impactful Dallas non-profits such as Brother Bill’s, Feonix Mobility Rising, Jubilee Park, and Mati-X. This symposium brought together medical professionals and non-profits to educate on ways to interact and better understand the complex needs of our communities. It allowed non-profits such as ours to have a platform to communicate our vital role in the community. The Magdalen House was proud to present on our innovative peer-implemented programming model.  At Maggie’s, our community of recovered alcoholics are highly trained and uniquely qualified to guide and equip newly sober individuals to find a solution to their alcoholism.

This relationship has not only allowed The Magdalen House to extend our reach but has given us the opportunity to share the free services that UT Southwestern provides with our clients and community. They were present at our “S’mores Recovery” Resource Fair in February of this year where where their HealthStreet team provided free kidney screenings and information on services, giving our clients and alumni a chance to learn more about what is available to them through the hospital system.

This relationship has not only allowed The Magdalen House to extend our reach but has given us the opportunity to share the free services that UT Southwestern provides with our clients and community.

We value this collaboration and thank UT Southwestern for helping us to touch more lives and educate more people on the disease of alcoholism and the mission of The Magdalen House.
