Continuing Hope After Recovery | Operation Hope

by | Mar 20, 2023 | #Free, Partners, Resources

For 30 years, Operation Hope has aimed to disrupt poverty by ensuring disenfranchised communities can bank, own small businesses, become homeowners, and be prepared for disasters by being financially competent. Their mission is to expand the promise of civil rights with the inclusion of free enterprise and a focus on people who are underserved. They also want minimum-wage earners to become livable-wage earners. They provide a variety of financial literacy workshops to adults and youth.

The Magdalen House partnership with Operation Hope empowers our community of alcoholic women. Many people who have struggled from alcoholism also can struggle with their finances. While we help women with their recovery at Maggie’s, Operation Hope is part of a continuum of care. They provide women in our community with the financial literacy education to take ownership of their finances and look to the future. Operation Hope works with women in our community to help determine their financial goals and give them the tools to help make these goals a reality- whether it’s rebuilding their credit, becoming a homeowner, or becoming a business owner. Oscar Torres, Operation Hope Coach is excited about the impact Operation Hope can bring to The Magdalen House.

“The room was full for our first workshop; the women were highly engaged and asked insightful questions. Regardless of their financial literacy level, every woman learned something new. After that workshop, I have been working with three of the participants one-on-one and continue to get referrals. I see the level of commitment from women at The Magdalen House to their recovery and their future and I am excited to be working with them and making sure they feel empowered in their financial decisions.”
