Connection and the Human Experience

by | Jan 9, 2019 | #Women, Alcoholism, Community, Solution, Spiritual

Connection is part of the human experience — a part that we often fail to recognize the importance of until it is lacking. Over the years I have heard countless women say that “God lives at Maggie’s”… that is to say that when they are here they feel a tangible connection to God and to others.

Deep inside most of us, there is a longing to be known and accepted as we are, imperfections and all. The Magdalen House allows women the opportunity to come as they are, brokenness aside, and find connection.

The “Big Book” of Alcoholics Anonymous describes the nature of this connection best; “The feeling of having shared in a common peril is one element in the powerful cement which binds us. But that in itself would never have held us together as we are now joined.”. Women come together at The Magdalen House because they have shared in a common peril- the devastation of alcoholism, but we stay together because we have experienced a common freedom from that devastation- connection to God and to each other.

God lives at Maggie’s because solution lives at Maggie’s. God lives at Maggie’s because connection happens under this roof, and connection is the foundation of recovery. What a privilege it is to be a part of such a beautiful community.
