1. What do you do at The Magdalen House, and what does a “typical” day look like for you?
I am a Program Coordinator at The Magdalen House. There are many facets to my work here at Maggie’s. My work day is rooted in helping the men in our First Step program in many ways. Through organization and time management, I get to do intakes, meetings, and assist in providing resources for our clients. I also ensure that clients adhere to the code of conduct established by The Magdalen House.
2. What is your favorite line in the Big Book and why?
“The consciousness of the presence of God is the most important fact of their lives.”

I have always believed that recovery was the most important; however, I have come to understand that it cannot be the ultimate priority, as I do not possess the power to achieve it on my own. Instead, by maintaining a conscious connection with the power that sustains my sobriety—through making amends, staying consistent in prayer and meditation, and continuing to carry the message—I am able to remain on the path of recovery.
3. What’s something you’ve witnessed at The Magdalen House that inspires or moves you?
The community’s spirit is evident among many men who either work here or return to give back, having once been clients.
4. How has working at The Magdalen House impacted your life?
The beginning of building strong connections and relationships is priceless. There are a lot of good people involved here at The Magdalen House. It also helps greatly that my heart is with the 12 steps and that this is a proven process that works. It is an honor to be a part of something bigger than myself.
5. What are some of your hobbies or things that you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
Some of my hobbies include raising African cichlids, traveling, and spending time with my beautiful fiancée.
5. What is something that we may not know about you?
I just found out after 40 years that I’m part Italian.
About Daniel Watts
Daniel was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Growing up in a single-parent household came with its share of hardships and challenges. When he was five years old, his grandfather stepped into his life and, in many ways, became both a mother and a father figure to him. The two shared a deep bond, traveling together often and creating lasting memories. However, over the next 19 years, Daniel would lose sight of the values he was raised with, as addiction slowly took over his life. The disease affected every part of him—mentally, emotionally, and spiritually—bringing with it many highs and lows. Everything began to change in 2022. At five months sober, Daniel had the chance to return to Wisconsin to make amends to his grandfather, his mother, and many others he had hurt along the way. Today, Daniel lives a life filled with purpose and meaning. He maintains a conscious connection with God, sponsors others on their recovery journey, carries the message, and continues to make amends. Along the way, he met the most incredible woman—his best friend and now fiancée. They will be married on October 19, 2025.
