Privately Funded, No-Cost, and Built on the 12-Step Model
The Magdalen House is a privately funded nonprofit offering free alcohol recovery services without accepting government funding and at no cost to the women and men who walk through its doors. Its curriculum is based on the 12-Step model and draws from the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous, delivered through peer implementation rather than paid clinical staff. This model demonstrates that a no-cost, peer-led continuum of care can sustain high completion rates without insurance billing or public funding, funded instead by a Community that includes the very people it has helped restore.
What Does It Cost to Keep Recovery Free in Dallas-Fort Worth?
Running two residential houses for up to 32 people at a time means three meals a day, utilities, bedding, and salaries for the staff who keep the program running, even though volunteers deliver most of the curriculum. Recovery itself is priceless, but keeping the doors open is not free. Removing the cost barrier to recovery is what makes the model work, and donations fund that removal.
