We first met Kady in early 2018. Living in sober living at the time, her roommates introduced her to The Magdalen House, where they would volunteer and attend meetings together. Over the years, Kady stayed close to Maggie’s, attending meetings and sponsoring newly sober women, and she recently joined our team as Chief Community Officer.
Kady, we are so excited to have you join the team. Happy three years!
What has been the biggest gift to you in your recovery?
That’s such a tough question because there are so many! I think to sum it up I would say, that I get to participate in life and be present. I can experience and appreciate the real beauty of what’s going on around me.
What would you tell the woman who is newly sober, or still trying to get sober?
Surround yourself with a strong, loving, connected group of women! I thank God every day for the ones in my life. There have been times when I was so stuck in my head that the only chance I had of hearing God was through the voice of a friend. Go to the meetings you don’t feel like going to, introduce yourself, stick around for the fellowship afterward, and put your number on the phone list. Keep showing up and allow people to get to know you. Watch for the women that are encouraging and supporting other women and stick with them!
What is your life like today?
I don’t wake up in the morning in a complete panic. I’m excited each day about what the world has to offer. I’m a mother to my children. They love spending time with me and come to me when they need advice or have a problem. I’m a wife and a daughter. I’m present for those that I love most in the world. People trust me. I’m able to sit still and quiet and just be. I have a relationship with God through experience and not just an idea of what might be. I help other people and actually enjoy it. I am so grateful for life today.
About Kady Tucker, Volunteer Coordinator
Kady got connected to Maggie’s when she was six months sober through volunteering with her sober living housemates. She knew as soon as she walked through the door that there was something special happening here. Kady could feel the presence and power of something truly magical. She continued to stay involved by attending evening meetings, being available to sponsor, and even introducing loved ones in need of help to our Social Detox Program.
She is passionate about helping women overcome some of the very same struggles that she’s walked through. Today she understands that her past is her greatest asset when helping another alcoholic woman find freedom. Kady stays actively involved in the local recovery community and comes to The Magdalen House with over two years of experience in the nonprofit and recovery industry. She knows that our volunteers are the lifeline at Maggie’s and is honored to help facilitate that program.
