Over the last three and a half years, she has worked diligently to implement systems, policies, and procedures. As a result, she has helped provide our agency with a strong foundation for growth and improved our financial structure and operations. We are so thankful for her experience, guidance, and help serving hundreds of women and their families every year.
Susie, we are so grateful for your love and support. Happy Birthday!
As a non-alcoholic woman, how do principles of recovery relate to your life?
I have been a person of faith for quite a while. I didn’t know anything about the Big Book before starting at Maggie’s. All I knew was that there were twelve steps that you had to go through when you got sober. What I have come to realize is how those principles are so closely related to Biblical principles that I try to live out. Watching the women at Maggie’s, live out a life of forgiveness, grace, and discipleship is so beautiful!
How is your life different, knowing alcoholic women in recovery and working at The Magdalen House?
I think for me it is really seeing that we all have our stuff, right? Alcoholism is very misunderstood by those who are not in recovery. However, seeing that, while it is a disease, the women in recovery are really no different from me. We all have things that make life difficult. Having other women around to support us and being vulnerable with one another is so important!
What has been the biggest blessing in working at Maggie’s?
The biggest blessing has been meeting so many amazing and inspirational people. Whether they be volunteers, clients, staff members, or board members, it has been a blessing to be around people that I probably wouldn’t have otherwise met.
