How Anyone Can Give Back

by | Sep 7, 2022 | #Support, Community, Giving, Impact, Volunteer

When you think of helping a nonprofit, you initially think ofdonating money or volunteering time is the best ways to give back. Although these are the primary ways you can support Maggie’s, there are plenty of other ways to help us reach more alcoholic women. From sharing our posts on social media to signing up for the give-back program at your local grocery store, you can begin to make a difference from the comfort of your own home! Here are some creative ways to get involved in our community right now:

1. Follow Us and Interact with Us on Social Media

One of the simplest ways to make a difference today is to follow us on all social media channels. Our primary focus, within our walls, community, and digitally, is education. Most of the content we create and share is educational in hopes that an alcoholic woman or her loved ones hear the solution and can connect with us to get the help they need to lead them to recovery. So not only does your interaction on our social channels potentially connect us to more people who may want to donate and volunteer, but even more importantly, we can reach the newcomer who may benefit from our mission. So find us on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn today and start interacting; we can’t wait to see you!

2. Invite Friends to Our Upcoming Events

Next time you’re heading to a meeting or classes, attending one of our workshops or events, invite someone to come along with you! Nothing is as powerful as the message they will hear in our meetings or as inspiring as seeing women pick up their anniversary chips at our monthly Birthday Night (the first Monday of every month.) Aside from those, we have many fun ways to be in community with one another, from game nights to our book club; we are here to educate in a fun and inviting atmosphere. Even if now isn’t the best time for you to attend one of our events, you can still help us ensure its success by sharing flyers, emails, or social media posts with others who may want to attend.

3. Talk About Us

“Achieve sobriety, sustain recovery.”

“Achieve sobriety, sustain recovery.”

Say it with me, “achieve sobriety, sustain recovery.”

1 in 11 women are alcoholic. You never know if the friend you’re talking to or coworker you’re having lunch with knows someone who needs help. You could be the connection they need to find that help. And don’t forget the vital parts of our mission that make us who we are – we are no cost and based on 12-step spiritual principles to help women achieve sobriety and sustain recovery. Have an organization, group, or business where you’d like to educate about the disease of alcoholism? You can request a speaker to come to you and your group, where we’ll share our mission, vision, and program information.

4. Donate House Needs

Donating essential supplies is one of the most impactful ways you can support the women we serve. We provide basic food, household, and toiletry items to the women staying with us in our two week residential recovery program. Help give these much-needed items by shopping from our house needs list or by hosting a donation drive. We’re happy to help you plan and organize a drive.

5. Facebook and Instagram Fundraisers

You can start a Facebook or Instagram fundraiser to support The Magdalen House and invite your followers and friends to join you in making a difference. Facebook also allows you to select an organization and invite friends to make a donation in honor of your birthday. There is no cost to you, and you’re not obligated to contribute yourself. Both platforms are easy with their step-by-step instructions.

6. Shopping Giveback Programs

Shop on Amazon, at Tom Thumb, or Kroger? All three organizations have give-back programs for consumers to make their purchases to do some good. First, create an account with any of these companies and follow instructions on their Amazon Smile, Tom Thumb’s Good Neighbor (our charity number is 2088), or Kroger’s Community Rewards pages to set up your nonprofit as The Magdalen House. The best part? It’s no cost to you. Next time you shop, go to instead of the regular URL, or use your Tom Thumb or Kroger card when shopping. We receive a portion of the sales for every purchase when you choose The Magdalen House as your nonprofit of choice.

7. Volunteer

We’re always overjoyed to hear from people interested in donating their time to help support our mission. Reach out to us and see how you can make an impact by volunteering. We have plenty of opportunities for individuals, groups, corporations, and other organizations!
