How Anyone Can Give Back

by | Mar 28, 2024 | #Support, Community, Giving, Impact, Volunteer

When you think of helping a nonprofit, you initially think of donating money or volunteering time as the best ways to give back. Although these are the primary ways you can support Maggie’s, there are plenty of other ways to help us reach more alcoholic women and men. From sharing our posts on social media to signing up for the give-back program at your local grocery store, you can begin to make a difference from the comfort of your own home! Here are some creative ways to get involved in our community right now:

  1. Follow Us and Interact with Us on Social Media

One of the simplest ways to make a difference today is to follow us on all social media channels. Our primary focus -within our walls, community, and digitally, is education. Most of the content we create and share is educational in hopes that an alcoholic or their loved ones will hear the solution and connect with us to get the help they need to lead them to recovery. So not only does your interaction on our social channels potentially connect us to more people who may want to donate and volunteer, but more importantly, it allows us to reach the newcomer who may benefit from our mission. So find us on FacebookInstagramTikTok, and LinkedIn today and start interacting; we can’t wait to see you!

  1. Invite Friends to Our Upcoming Events

Next time you’re heading to a meeting, or attending one of our workshops or events, bring a guest! It’s a powerful experience to hear the message in our meetings and inspiring to watch others pick up their anniversary chips at our monthly Birthday Night. There are many fun ways to be in community and fellowship with one another as we are here to educate in an inviting atmosphere. Even if you can’t attend one of our events, you can still help by sharing flyers, emails, or- yes, revert to option one- social media posts with others who may be interested.

  1. Talk About Us

Say it with me, “achieve sobriety, sustain recovery.”

1 in 11 women, 1 in 7 men, and 1 in 9 adults suffer from alcoholism. You never know if the friend you’re talking to or the coworker you’re having lunch with knows someone who needs help. You could be the connection they need to find that help. And don’t forget the vital parts of our mission that make us who we are – we are no cost and based on 12-step spiritual principles to help women and men achieve sobriety and sustain recovery. Do you have an organization, group, or business you’d like to educate about the disease of alcoholism? You can request a speaker to come to you and your group, where we’ll share our mission, vision, and program information.

  1. Donate House Needs

Donating essential supplies is one of the most impactful ways you can support the women and men we serve. We provide basic food, household, and toiletry items to the individuals staying with us in our two-week residential recovery program. Help give these much-needed items by shopping from our house needs list or by hosting a donation drive. We’re happy to help you plan and organize a drive.

  1. Facebook and Instagram Fundraisers

You can start a Facebook or Instagram fundraiser to support The Magdalen House and invite your followers and friends to join you in making a difference. Facebook also allows you to select an organization and invite friends to donate in honor of your birthday. There is no cost to you, and you’re not obligated to contribute yourself. Both platforms are easy with their step-by-step instructions.

  1. Shopping Giveback Programs

Shop at Tom Thumb or Kroger? These organizations have give-back programs for consumers to make their purchases to do some good. First, create an account with either of these companies and follow instructions on their pages Tom Thumb’s Good Neighbor (our charity number is 2088), or Kroger’s Community Rewards to set up your nonprofit as The Magdalen House. The best part? It’s no cost to you. Next time you shop, use your Tom Thumb or Kroger card when shopping. We receive a portion of the sales for every purchase when you choose The Magdalen House as your nonprofit of choice.

  1. Become a Part of the FAM

Friends and Ambassadors of Maggie’s (FAM) is a support auxiliary group for The Magdalen House. Members serve as mission ambassadors, help educate the community on alcoholism, and support Maggie’s through fundraising, volunteering, providing donations, advocating, and gifts-in-kind.

Benefits of the auxiliary include:
