Please join us in celebrating Nicole Rangel, Community Coordinator at The Magdalen House! We are so excited to have her join the team!
1. What do you do at The Magdalen House, and what does a “typical” day look like for you?
I am the Community Program Coordinator at The Magdalen House and a typical day for me looks like being at the most unique place on earth! My daily activities consist of helping the newcomers feel welcome, communicating with clients and loved ones during family support and visitation, and keeping the Maggie’s Women’s Group Facebook page updated on the schedules, meetings, and announcements. I am also responsible for finding meeting chairs and covers to ensure that everyone is getting the proper foundation for their recovery.
2. What is your favorite line in the Big Book and why?
“To spend too much time on any one situation is to deny some other alcoholic an opportunity to live and be happy.”
To me this means that I need to be ready and available to offer my solution not just for one alcoholic, but to anyone that needs it.
3. What’s something you’ve witnessed at The Magdalen House that inspires or moves you?
Do I have to pick just one? One thing that really inspires me on a daily basis is the strong volunteer support that continues to thrive and help The Magdalen House keep thriving; they are like the backbone! Just knowing they came through the house and continue to keep coming back to give away what was so freely given to them. It’s just amazing to be able to witness it. It’s the gift that keeps giving!
4. How has working at The Magdalen House impacted your life?
Being able to work at The Magdalen House has made me more conscious of my spiritual growth that I need on a daily basis. Being able to help other women find their solution helps me continue on my road for recovery.
5. What are some of your hobbies, or things that you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
I love spending time with my family and my friends when I am not working. Having a great support system is the one thing I cherish on a daily basis. OH! And food, is that a hobby?
About Nicole Rangel
Nicole Rangel, leveraging her roots from Edinburg, Texas, never felt like she quite fit in. Faced with pressure to fill shoes she didn’t feel like she was capable of filling, she started to rebel and hang with company her family wouldn’t approve of and eventually gave in to peer pressure. Entertaining the company she chose to spend most of her time with, she then became heavily consumed in the world of alcohol and addiction, struggling with it for most of her teenage and adult life.
Nicole was never willing to admit she had a problem and kept running away from it; feeling that was the only time she felt like herself. After countless amounts of failed attempts to stop on her own, her last option was treatment or prison. Finally, at her wits end, she surrendered. Armed with new knowledge and her spiritual tool kit, she is now making significant strides in the field of recovery in Dallas, Texas. She employs the 12 steps of recovery to help individuals navigate their path, emphasizing the importance of community, accountability, and personal growth.
Nicole’s work is instrumental in guiding individuals through the challenging journey of overcoming addiction, providing hope and practical strategies for those seeking to reclaim their lives.
Nicole shares the same mission of The Magdalen House, to help individuals with alcoholism achieve sobriety and sustain recovery at no cost and based on 12-Step spiritual principles.
