Please join us in celebrating Keegan Miller, Program Coordinator. We are so excited to have her on the team!
1. What do you do at The Magdalen House, and what does a “typical” day look like for you?
In my first week here, I have been training for Phone Screens, the first step in getting clients enrolled in our programs. I also work in the First Step office, which is one-on-one direct client care. Making sure clients feel safe and doing my best to guide them towards spiritual principles, which form the foundation for a healthy and satisfying life.
2. What is your favorite line in the Big Book and why?
“We feel as though we had been placed in a state of neutrality, safe and protected.” (pg. 85)
When I was active in my alcoholism, and even while sober before having a spiritual awakening, my life was consumed with emotional turbulence. I felt like I was ruminating on every waking moment about what could make me feel better, and what I wanted was usually harmful to my mind, body, and spirit. Today, I remain neutral about most things, and I am so grateful to have a clear head. Picking up a drink is not even a thought for me when life gets tough.
3. What's something you've witnessed at The Magdalen House that inspires or moves you?
It's amazing how eager our volunteers are to serve and give back.
4. How has working at The Magdalen House impacted your life?
It reminds me how quickly we can get relief when we work this program like our life depends on it.
5. What are some of your hobbies or things that you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
I really value sober fun and keeping a childlike spirit alive. I love going out dancing, playing dress-up, and enjoying the freedom to go anywhere a free person can go without fear of disaster or temptation.
6. What is something that we may not know about you?
My favorite instruments are the cello and the theremin, although I don’t know how to play.
About Keegan Miller
Keegan Miller grew up in Houston, Texas, and got sober just before her 20th birthday in 2021. Getting sober at such a young age meant she essentially grew up inside the rooms of AA, shaped from the start by the 12 steps and the principles that go with them.
At The Magdalen House, Keegan works directly with clients, conducting phone screens and providing one-on-one support in the First Step office. Her goal in every interaction is to help each client feel safe and guide them toward the spiritual principles that make a healthy, satisfying life possible.
