Please join us in celebrating Darren Renfro, Men’s Program Coordinator. We are so excited to have him join the team!
1. What do you do at The Magdalen House, and what does a “typical” day look like for you?
I get the honor of working with guys that are experiencing the first step consequences that I had. I am able to show them how important it is to work the program and having strong sponsorship in order to stay sober.
2. What is your favorite line in the Big Book and why?
“We learned that we had to fully concede to our innermost selves that we were alcoholics.”
From page 30. Between 1994 and 2021 I was unable to comprehend that.
3. What’s something you’ve witnessed at The Magdalen House that inspires or moves you?
The love and compassion that I see between the people that are involved, both staff and clients.
4. How has working at The Magdalen House impacted your life?
I get to play a small part in watching chronic alcoholics begin their road to sobriety.
5. What are some of your hobbies or things that you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
I like to go hiking, fishing, hunting, anything that has to do with outdoors. After growing up in Arkansas, I love horseback riding and team roping.
5. What is something that we may not know about you?
I have a crazy sense of humor and I love to make people laugh.
About Darren Renfro
Darren came to The Magdalen House by way of a different industry altogether. After volunteering overnights in our First Step program, he immediately connected with our mission. Following much prayer and meditation, his heart led him to us full-time.
Darren’s passion for helping others achieve sobriety and sustain recovery comes on the heels of his own recovery journey. By the grace of God, Darren has been sober since 2021. There is a passage in the Big Book that reads, “none of us makes a sole vocation of this,” but the work/life parallels have ignited a purpose in Darren that knows no bounds.
