Celebrating Our Team: Courtney Key – Program Coordinator

Please join us in celebrating Courtney Key, Program Coordinator. We are so excited to have her on the team!

1. What do you do at The Magdalen House, and what does a “typical” day look like for you?

I’m a Program Coordinator, and I split my time between the women’s house and the men’s house. A typical day looks like connecting with clients, sharing my own experience in recovery, and helping ensure they have what they need to be successful in the program. Whether that’s offering encouragement, answering questions, or simply being present, my role is about walking alongside them as they take the next right step in recovery.

2. What is your favorite line in the Big Book and why?

“We found that God doesn’t make too hard terms with those who seek Him.” — page 46

This line means everything to me. My connection with God is what keeps me sober today. This time around, I’ve done things differently. I’ve fully leaned into that relationship. My sobriety isn’t about my own strength; it’s about surrender and trusting God to do for me what I couldn’t do for myself.

3. What’s something you’ve witnessed at The Magdalen House that inspires or moves you?

Watching women come into the house feeling desperate, hopeless, and broken, and then seeing the transformation that happens in just 14 days. Witnessing this is incredibly moving. It’s like watching a wilted flower bloom. You can literally see the light come back on. Hope returns, confidence grows, and they begin to believe in themselves again.

4. How has working at The Magdalen House impacted your life?

I am deeply grateful. I never would have imagined that just two years ago, when I came through the house myself, I would now be on “the other side,” helping others and witnessing these incredible transformations. Being able to use my experience to help someone else find hope and healing is something I don’t take lightly.

5. What are some of your hobbies or things that you enjoy doing when you’re not working?

I love spending time with my three grown children and my four grandsons. I’m also grateful to be reconnecting with my dad, who I have dinner with once a week, which means the world to me. I’m a big fan of thrift shopping. Some of my best finds have come from White Rock Center of Hope.

5. What is something that we may not know about you?

I drove a wire-guided forklift, a PIT (Power Industrial Truck), for Amazon. It took me into cages up to 45 feet in the air. Definitely not something people usually expect to hear!
