About the Event

The Leave a Legacy Dinner allows The Magdalen House to provide alcoholic women the opportunity to obtain long-term sobriety and a renewed quality of life, at any stage of her recovery. This annual fundraiser is an evening consisting of inspiration, women’s empowerment, and agency awareness while striving to reduce the stigma on alcoholism by educating the Dallas community on a solution to permanent recovery. Previous speakers include Elizabeth Vargas, award-winning news anchor and correspondent, and Sarah Hepola, author of the New York Times bestseller Blackout.

She has dedicated herself to advancing education and promoting the well-being of women and families worldwide. Today,  Mrs. Bush serves as the Chair for the Bush Institute’s Women’s Initiative, guiding the Institute’s programs to advance economic opportunity, good health and human freedom for women and girls around the world.

Mrs. Bush is the author of the bestselling memoir Spoken from the Heart and bestselling children’s book Our Great Big Backyard. She serves on many boards, including the National Advisory Board for the Salvation Army, the Council for the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, the Board of Trustees for the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and the SMU Board of Trustees.

The Paul Tate Advocate Award

The Paul Tate Advocate Award recognizes individuals who zealously advance awareness of The Magdalen House in the greater Dallas community. For over 20 years, Mr. Paul Tate has played an integral role in building The Magdalen House’s thriving community of recovered women and their families – one woman at a time. Mr. Tate has referred hundreds of women and families to our agency in hopes that they can find hope in recovery while promoting philanthropic efforts to keep the doors of The House open.

This year, The Magdalen House is honored to present the Paul Tate Advocate Award to Nancy and Jack Zogg. Nancy and Jack are longtime supporters of The Magdalen House. Together, they have helped to transform the lives of alcoholic women and their families, while actively striving to reduce stigma through educating the greater Dallas community on the disease of alcoholism and a solution to permanent recovery.

The Honorary Award

The Honorary Award recognizes organizations or individuals that have had a significant impact on the growth of The Magdalen House.

This year, The Honorary Award will be awarded to The David M. Crowley Foundation. Delia Johnson and Board Members of the Foundation visited The Magdalen House in early 2017 for a site tour that inspired an immediate passion for our mission after seeing first-hand the lives we’ve changed through our services. Since that day, The David M. Crowley Foundation has generously given time and financial influence in the hopes of providing life-saving services to more alcoholic women.
