Dear Maggie’s Volunteers,
Happy Volunteer Appreciation Week!
There aren’t enough words to express how grateful we are for the volunteers that bless The Magdalen House. You are, by far, some of the most inspirational people we have ever had the pleasure of meeting. From all walks of life, from all over the country, from every different background and story, you are here. Alcoholic women and their families talk about the “magic of Maggie’s,” but that magic doesn’t come from the walls of our House. That magic happens when a woman who has just left the House walks back through the doors, willing to be of service. It happens when a recovered alcoholic woman sits down with a newly sober woman to share her experience, and how she got to where she is. And it happens when volunteers are advocating for Maggie’s in our community, raising awareness and support. The magic of Maggie’s happens because of YOU.
Did you know, you also help keep our doors open? Every hour spent in service at The Magdalen House has monetary value. Every hour you donated in 2019 – cleaning, working the front desk, chairing a meeting, staying overnight – was valued at $25.43 per hour. These precious hours keep our budget sustainable, allowing us to put financial donations directly towards the programs that help save alcoholic women’s lives.
In 2019, 484 individual volunteers served a total of 16,799 hours, worth $427,198.57. To break it down, this valuable time equals about the amount it costs for 285 women, or about 80% of our admissions in 2019, to go through our two-week Social Detox Program.
By far, the best part of my job is getting to see so many of you, day in and day out, loving on each other and helping each other in ways we didn’t know we needed. The way you restore hope for the women and encourage the staff is what makes this place so special. There aren’t enough words to express our gratitude, but we are certainly going to try. Thank you. Thank you to every woman who has ever come through our doors. Thank you to all the women who inspire us on a regular basis. Thank you to every single volunteer who has ever visited us and made what we do possible. You are the real lifesavers, quite literally, and we will always be grateful for you.
We miss you all so much during this time. Maggie’s isn’t the same without all of your laughter in the halls! We love YOU! Can’t wait to see all your smiling faces soon!
With love and virtual hugs,
P.S. Special thank you to our Top 25 Volunteers of 2019! We can’t wait to celebrate you more later this year!
