“Each day I work to fulfill God’s terms, and in turn, God continually provides me with much more than I need. All that he asks of me is that I keep close to Him and perform His work well. That’s it… and I have this beautiful life, happy and free!”

– Nancy McMahon, Social Detox Alumna in recovery since June 24, 2015

Meet Meeting Chair, Co-Chair of Maggie’s Women’s Group, and Social Detox alumna, Nancy McMahon! In 2015, Nancy went through the Social Detox program and never looked back. From that day forward she has been a familiar face in the Maggie’s community, giving more than 500 hours of her time as an active volunteer. We are so grateful to have her as part of our community!

Nancy’s meetings are every other Tuesday at 2:30 pm. View Our Meeting Schedule

1. What is your favorite line in the Big Book, and why?

“He provided what we needed, if we kept close to Him and performed His work well.” – Page 63

These are God’s terms with us. They are mentioned on pages 28 and 46, then spelled out on page 63. That is all God asks of each of us.

Each day I work to fulfill God’s terms, and in turn, God continually provides me with much more than I need. All that he asks of me is that I keep close to Him and perform His work well. That’s it… and I have this beautiful life, happy and free!

2. What has been the most significant gift to you in your Recovery?

My personal relationship with God, my amazing relationships with my husband and daughter, and discovering that my unique experience enables me to help other women who still suffer. So, three significant gifts but there are many, many more!

3. What would you say to women who are new to recovery?

Follow direction and stick with it. Every. Single. Day. It is THE most important thing you will ever do.

4. What is your life like today?

The best description is something I never fully understood before — in Philippians 4:6 “a peace which passes all understanding.” Life has thrown so many curve balls at me the past few years, yet, I have constantly felt a peace that I truly cannot comprehend.

5. What are some of your hobbies or things that you enjoy in your free time?

Currently, my time is consumed with rebuilding our home that was destroyed in the 2019 tornado in Dallas. I love spending time with my husband and daughter, who is a sophomore at Auburn University. I love my time in Maggie’s Fellowship and projects with Maggie’s Women’s Group. Also, time with my book club, Bible Study, working out, cooking/entertaining, and gardening.
