Meet our Volunteer of the Month, Lucinda Buford!

Lucinda Buford is the perfect choice as volunteer of the month for February 2023.

Not only does she give of her time, her services, and her gifts, she engages her entire family in helping forward the mission of The Magdalen House. She’s been a devoted volunteer since 2017, a board of director’s member since 2019 and is actively engaged in our Family Support program. It is community leaders like Lucinda that help forward the mission of The Magdalen House and bring alcoholism out of the darkness for all families in our community. THANK YOU, Lucinda, for all you do for our women, their families, and the Dallas Community.

Lucinda + The Magdalen House = 💚

Volunteer Manager, Kelly Williams, sat down with Lucinda to learn a little bit about how she first got involved at Maggie’s and what service means to her. Here’s what she had to say:

Kelly: So happy to get to chat with you about your volunteer and service at Maggie’s. Let’s start with you briefly describing how you first got connected to Maggie’s.
Lucinda: So I called a friend when a family member was struggling with alcoholism, and learned how recovery applied to me as well, as someone who loves an alcoholic.

K: What was the first thing you did as a volunteer and how has volunteering evolved for you?
L: I served on the Leave a Legacy committee.

K: How has volunteering impacted your quality of life?
L: It has enriched my life by keeping me involved with people who are passionate about a solution for alcoholism – both for the alcoholic, and the family member. It’s become a guidepost for me in my service to others.

K: What have been the most inspiring experiences you’ve had as a volunteer at Maggie’s?
L: Seeing family support meetings in progress, and the lightbulb go on for family members when they begin to understand the disease of alcoholism.

K: How do you put Gratitude in Action?
L: Serving others is critical for me, and is an important part of keeping me healthy!

Lucinda’s Volunteer Impact:
Lucinda began volunteering with us in 2017 and has been a huge supporter of The Magdalen House in so many ways. Lucinda has logged a total of 418 hours since 2019, which is valued at $12,519 for our organization! This means that Lucinda has helped us send 7 women through our First Step program, or 15 women through Next Step!
