Meet our Volunteer of the Month, Jorge Azpe!

“Jorge serves as the Treasurer on our Board of Directors. In his professional life, he is a consultant in financial planning and analysis. He brings those talents to The Magdalen House by serving on our Finance and Audit Committee. He is so patient and kind and helps oversee the organization’s finances and operations. We are so grateful for the many hours he gives to Maggie’s!”

Volunteer Manager, Kelly Williams, sat down with Jorge to learn a little bit about how he first got involved at Maggie’s and what service means to him. Here’s what he had to say:

Kelly: What does Gratitude in Action mean to you?

Jorge: Being thankful from the inside out. Recognize and let others know how much you appreciate them.

K: Briefly describe how you first got connected to Maggie’s.

J: I had the privilege of being introduced to Maggie’s through Carlos Barroso and did not hesitate in making myself available for such a great cause.

K:What was the first thing you did as a volunteer and how has volunteering evolved for you?

J: I first joined the Board as a member at large while getting myself involved in the Finance and  Audit committee. Soon after, I became Treasurer. I enjoy giving back my experience as this can hopefully provide a different perspective into the agency’s operation.

K: How has volunteering impacted your quality of life?

J: It just makes me feel so good as I am able to volunteer and witness the transformation Maggie’s can have in our society. I am thankful for being able and willing to volunteer at Maggie’s.

K: What have been the most inspiring experiences you’ve had as a volunteer at Maggie’s?

J: That we are able to secure funding for the various programs we provide and how this becomes a virtuous circle in which as we grow awareness, we have the generosity of our donors to complement our mission and vision.

Jorge’s Volunteer Impact:

Since he began volunteering in May of 2021, Jorge has donated 310 hours of his time to The Magdalen House. This is valued at $9,858 for our organization, which means that Jorge has helped to send almost five women through our First Step program and the talent, experience, and passion he brings to our organization is priceless. We are so grateful for you, Jorge!
