Meet our Volunteer of the Month, Laura Wilson!
“Laura is so willing to step up whenever we are in need. She overnights frequently when we need help, picks up donations from our partners, and she does it all with a smile on her face. She makes meaningful connections with our clients and helps them to feel at home and comfortable. And she always eats the cake!”
-Teresa Hollingsworth, Program Manager
Laura + The Magdalen House =
Has donated a total of:
642.79 hours! This is valued at over $19,250 for our organization, meaning Laura has helped put over a dozen women through our two-week First Step program! Fantastic!
You can usually find her:
At Maggie’s either chairing a meeting or socializing with the clients at the dinner table during her overnight shift.
I’ve never seen her without:
I’ve never seen Laura without bursting into laughter. She always knows just what to say to make anyone laugh!
My favorite thing about her is:
Her sense of humor and her willingness to be of service!
The Magdalen House wouldn’t be the same without her because:
Our meeting chairs and overnight volunteers provide valuable perspective and experience for our clients. Laura provides hope and is such a wonderful example of what happiness and willingness to be of service in sobriety can look like.
Here’s what Laura has to share about volunteering at Maggie’s!
How do you put “Gratitude in Action?”:
“Gratitude in action is showing up to help another woman. I’ve read somewhere, ‘I’m not recovered because of my step 1, I’m recovered because of someone’s 12th step.’ Recovered women came through when I was in the house to give their experience, strength, and hope, and by doing the same I am ‘paying my debt to the woman who took time to pass it on to me.’”
